DIC

Himachal Pradesh state Pharmacy council (HPSPC) is a statutory body constituted by the Government of Himachal Pradesh under the provision of the pharmacy act of 1948. HPSPC is committed to provide preventive, promotive, curative health services to the people of state. In Himachal Pradesh medical practitioners are over burden with large number of patients and they do not have the sufficient time to counsel the patient for rational use of drugs. Due to which severe drug reactions or adverse events may take place. Himachal Pradesh State Pharmacy Council felt the urgent need to review the role of pharmacist in providing better healthcare in rural areas of Himachal Pradesh, where there is scarcity of medical practitioners. In that regard, Himachal Pradesh State Pharmacy Council has set the mission and vision of Drug Information Center (DIC). HPSPC established its DIC on 25th Sep. 2016 in Laureate Institute of Pharmacy at Jwala Ji (Kangra) to disseminate unbiased drug information to healthcare professionals. Drug information center is a physical location that provides a system for the organization and dissemination of the drug information of the enquirer.

First independent DIC in the state of Himachal Pradesh will provide the unbiased drug information to everyone irrespective of their profession in a simple, understandable and regional language. Drug information is the provision of verbal and written information about drugs and drug therapies in response to request from healthcare providing organization, committees, patients and public community. Drug information service refers to the activities undertaken by the pharmacists in providing information to drug use. Poor drug regulation and lack of independent unbiased drug information are the main contributing reasons for the irrational drug use in India. DIC could act as helping hand for the medical practitioners as well as healthcare professionals to promote the rational drug use.
